At a bar in Arusha. Our client Adria entertains the team after a successful summit of Mount Meru. Hosea, Wilbert, Adria, Patrick (Wilbert's youngest brother) and Emmanuel. Looking east on the road between Arusha and Moshi. A left turn here will take us to Londorossi over a dirt road. Our climbs start at Lemosho not far from Londorossi. Our clients Denise and Marilyn at the start of their Western Breach climb. Our tents contrast nicely with the green forest. We love this camp in the Montane forest Big and roomy with soft warm colors and lots of side pockets - the best tents on the mountain Dawn with our colorful tents in the foreground Picture was taken from a hill near the Shira 1 Camp area. Senecio kilimanjari near Fischer's Camp One of our favorite camps - only a few companies are allowed to camp here since there are no public toilets. We use holding tanks. Our client Victor had a great time hanging out with us in the porter tent. To protect the environment we don't dig holes. We use a porta potti with a holding tank - then we dump the waste (after bio-friendly treatment) in an approved pit when possible. After a snowy night, our tents look colorful in the magical landscape. Mess tent is on the left. Chef tent and porter tents are in the background. From the top of Lava Tower looking west. It's one of our clients spending quality time away from the rigors of hiking. He is enjoying the views at Sheffield Camp. Our tents with the mess tent in the middle background. Looking North. Snow fell the night before. At the top of their game near Arrow Glacier. A short but steep hike via the Lava Tower. Why would you climb any other route? View from the ridge next to camp. Our mess tent is on the left. Nice view of the Western Breach Porter tent, Chef tent, Mess tent and client tents. The route up the Western Breach. We start at 7am. It takes 60 minutes to the point in the foreground. 4 hours to the lunch spot. And so on. Look at the climb times. The two major scrambling sections happen just before lunch (from 10:45 to about 11am). It takes only 15 minutes or so to scramble over these sections! It is steep, but we zig-zag our way up there. It is a magnificent route! About half-way up the Breach. Why would you climb at night and miss these fantastic views? We serve sandwiches with hot and cold drinks! The views are spectacular. View towards the rim from the lunch spot - only an hour or so to the Crater Camp The first view to the East after arriving at the rim. Uhuru Peak is on top to the left. Our camp will be next to the glacier at the foot of the steep wall. Looking at our camp from the North. Photo was taken from Furtwangler Glacier. The next day, we will climb the steep section behind camp - a 60 minute hike before turning left for the 30-min hike to the summit. Look at the beautiful Furtwangler Glacier in front of our camp. After arriving at the Crater Camp, many of our clients feel strong enough to hike to the crater - a 45 minute walk. Our children may not see this - don't wait until the snows of Kilimanjaro are gone. Come and experience something that won't be around for very long. Just 30 min to go to the summit! We approach from the West. Most hikers approach from the East. This time we had a snow storm! This is our guide Faraja looking like he is walking on the moon! This picture was taken at the end of February, 2004! You never know when snow will fall. 90 minutes to go - looking towards the summit from the Crater Camp It was her birthday on summit day! One of our clients celebrated her birthday at the summit - the Kiliwarriors surprised her with champagne and cake! Here you can buy Coke, beer and t-shirts. Just another excuse for a celebration. It does does take much! Wilbert wears a gift from our clients from the USA. The Maasai warrior looks pretty good in his Native American headwear! The Kiliwarriors always surprise our clients with a big party at the end of the climb. Mweka gate. Our porter entertain our clients for the final time (next to the park office at Mweka gate) This was a very happy climb - Steve (Mze Stephano) and David (Daudi Mkubwa) are honorary Kiliwarriors and very supportive of our mountain team. Gold if you reached Uhuru Peak, Green if you reached Stella Point or Gillman's Point.
