Look in the travel section of your Sunday newspapers for Africa specialists who fly to Nairobi, etc.

You can almost forget about general travel sites such as Expedia.

One suggestion is RA Travel in New York City.

Air Travel

The sooner you book your flights the better. You have two options:

bullet

We can recommend several USA-based  agents who specialize in commercial air travel to East Africa.

bullet

We specialize in luxury charter air travel and can arrange private charters to and from East Africa in 12-seater Falcon jets. Be prepared for a sticker shock!

The earlier you book your flights the cheaper it will be.

Airline Options:

We recommend you fly with KLM from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Be aware that the cheapest fares sell out early. These flights depart Amsterdam in the late morning and arrive in Kilimanjaro at 9:30pm.

Another option is to fly to Nairobi in Kenya, and take the connecting 45-minute shuttle flight to Kilimanjaro.  It is cheaper and easier to book all the flights as part of your international itinerary. The flight to Kilimanjaro from Nairobi costs about $200 one way.

If you want to save money, you can take one of two shuttles from Nairobi to the Kilimanjaro area. These buses take about 5-6 hours and costs about $25. It is a bumpy ride and hot and always crowded but you "may" actually enjoy the experience! Please book these yourself!

If you arrive in Nairobi too late to catch the 6pm flight, we strongly suggest you stay in Nairobi instead of trying to catch one of the few evening flights to Kilimanjaro. For safety reasons we do NOT transfer clients after 10pm in Tanzania.

In Nairobi, we book only the Panari Hotel  for overnights because it is nearest to the airport (12 minutes). Double rooms are about $150 and transfers about $15 each way.  If you take one of the shuttles above, the hotel can help arrange a ride to the meeting points.

Cheap Tickets:

Not if you use the mom&pop travel agency down the road!

Sometimes Expedia, Orbitz, etc, have good fares! Also try the specialists such as:

RATRAVEL in NY - 800 7880777

http://www.kayak.com

www.air-gorilla.com

Please plan to arrive at least 2 nights before your climb. This will allow you to settle down and give your outfitter time to check your gear and show you around!
