Climb Costs What every trekker should know about climbing costs on Kilimanjaro: It is not cheap to climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB WITH COMPANIES WHO CUT CORNERS WITH EXPENSES. There are plenty of them and some of the best-known outfitters have horrible mountain habits. They either don't pay the full Park fees and/or they underpay the porters. They don't provide tents, sleeping bags or clothes for the porters. PORTERS MUST HAVE THEIR OWN TENT(S). SLEEPING IN THE MESS TENT IS BAD NEWS. And these companies carry no safety equipment - putting you and the porters at great risk. Please read our Essential Porter Policy for more info. WE URGE YOU TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF YOUR PORTERS ON THE MOUNTAIN. Kiliwarrior Climb costs: Choose from two options. Gold or Platinum. We don't have singles surcharges on the mountain and strangers never share tents/rooms!
According to our clients we offer a far superior service and we should be the most expensive outfitter on Kilimanjaro! Well, we don't own fancy office buildings, we don't employ overpaid western managers & guides, and we refuse to waste money on advertisements in glossy magazines! We are confident enough to rely on word-of-mouth and thanks to the support from our fiercely loyal clients we are proud to offer reasonable rates - despite the temptation to charge more than the overrated international safari companies who often pocket huge profits at the expense of local porters and guides! We respectfully ask that you think carefully before paying more than our rates for Kilimanjaro and Meru climbs. You will most certainly pay more for less!
Climb costs include: all accommodations as specified above; arrival and departure transfers; park and entrance fees; baggage handling; hotel taxes; guides, porters and camp staff; meals on the mountain, medical evacuation service from the base of Mount Kilimanjaro to nearest best hospital. Climb costs not included (Gold option): travel insurance; airfares; selected airport departure taxes; excess baggage charges; cost of obtaining passports or visas; gratuities to camp staff, drivers, guides, porters or hotel staff; lunch & dinner at the hotel before/after the climb (breakfast is included), beverages, sightseeing not included in the itinerary; personal expenses such as laundry, communication charges and optional activities, extra transfers to/from airport not included above. Climb costs not included (Platinum option): travel insurance; airfares; selected airport departure taxes; excess baggage charges; cost of obtaining passports or visas; sightseeing not included in the itinerary; personal expenses such as gifts and phone calls Please compare our costs with some of the international outfitters: Note: While more expensive, these companies are no match for our pre- and post climb accommodation choices, our state-of-the-art equipment, our smaller group sizes, the experience of our team, and the cultural interaction that we promote. These companies all require that you share tents, or you pay a lot more! We are flexible in this regard. Most have minimum group size requirements and will cancel your trip! We NEVER cancel trips! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is easy to see why we caution against "budget" climbs. With budget prices and no margins, the operator has to negotiate lower wages, has fewer porters carry heavier loads, has no safety equipment, force the porters to sleep in the mess tent, use cheap equipment (small, leaking tents), use low-quality (unsafe) hotels, has no insurance, and may unexpectedly team you up with other climbers (creating teams of 10-15 climbers). The top outfitters pay more and attract experienced guides, chefs and porters. These companies also enroll their guides in annual WFR classes - these are week-long First-Aid events that only the leading guides can afford to attend. Kilimanjaro is a dangerous mountain when you're unprepared. The top mountain outfitters equip each climb with expensive safety devices such as pulse oximeters and hyperbaric chambers, and enroll their clients in the Flying Doctors program. Chances are you won't need these luxuries, but when you do it may save your life. Why risk your life to save a few hundred dollars?
