None of the current Kilimanjaro climbing videos show the climb in detail. They are all focused on the climbers, resulting in long drawn out shots of climbers talking about the climb.

This DVD is different. It is focused on the mountain and the route.

"Bravo! After watching the IMAX film, I wanted to learn more about the Western Breach route. This DVD showed me everything I wanted to see and much more. I truly enjoyed the breathtaking views, the singing porters, the  route descriptions and the climb briefings! Don't climb the Breach without watching this DVD!", John Westbrook, NY

"The power of this DVD is its simplicity. No hype, no boring climber interviews, no arrogance. It is simply about climbing the mountain and showing what it takes to reach the summit!", PJ Smythen, Miami FL

"I loved the singing! For some reason, our porters did not sing during our Machame climb in 2003. The Kilimanjaro song is my favorite and after watching the DVD we decided to climb Kili again in the near future - this time via the Western Breach!", Julia Davis, San Diego CA

Producer's Notes:

"I read every book and watched every film about Kilimanjaro. It struck me that these are always about the climbers with very little reference to porters and the routes! I was surprised by the hype and drama surrounding the climb - climbers referring to 1000 ft vertical drops and talking about the need to be roped-in on the Breach route, and so on!

The internet is even worse. Misinformation is rampant! You get some of the worst advice from well-meaning climbers who managed to reach the summit and are now sharing their limited knowledge on the bulletin boards and travelogues.  Many outfitters provide misleading information to suit their limited resources and budgets. It was time to set the record straight.

Seeing is believing, and I saw a need to create films that show the climbing routes in great detail, allowing the viewers to decide for themselves whether they can succeed on Kilimanjaro or not. You can finally see for yourself that there are no life-threatening 1000 ft  vertical drops on the Western Breach route!

To remain authentic, voice-overs and color enhancements had to be restricted.  To capture the spirit of the climb, the cameras had to be non-obtrusive so I decided to use only hand-held video cameras.

The final decision was about the climbers. I climbed Kilimanjaro three times and each time I felt different at different stages of the climb. As a result, I decided against interviewing the climbers about conditions, headaches, AMS, blisters and other ailments. Their pounding headaches and blisters at X feet are irrelevant to you! Hundreds of climbers don't get major headaches and blisters at X feet so why should I capture this on film? Instead, the films focus on ways to minimize altitude sickness and physical problems.

If you are thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro, these films will help you make informed decisions about routes, expected conditions, gear, outfitters, and safety.

And if you climbed Kilimanjaro in the past, the films will put you back on the mountain, allowing you to relive your experience. Most climbers are too tired and cold to film their climbs - now you have a permanent reminder of your climb!

The porters of Kilimanjaro are some of the hardest-working, friendliest, most-engaging people I know and I am delighted to share the profits of this DVD with the thirty or so spirited guides and porters who helped me shoot this film!

Enjoy!"
